Title: Design Document
Area of Mastery: Instructional Design
Description:
This Design Document was completed as part of my coursework for ETT 510.
This artifact is a a professional development plan design document to teach digital literacy to teachers and students at a fictitious middle school to support the transition between middle school and high school. My group decided to create a plan to train teachers on how to effectively use Google Apps For Education. We clearly defined our goals for the unit and aligned them with NETS Standards. The unit consisted of plans to conduct an initial three hour training session with a technology specialist and then plans to follow up with two one hour training sessions in which teachers would work together to demonstrate what they have learned. Our group utilized Dick and Carey’s instructional design model for this assignment. The entire Design Document includes:
My learners, in this case adults in a professional development situation, This design document demonstrates my ability to conduct a needs assessment analyzing a problem/situation and to apply a coherent design model to create a course designed to instruct professional educators. This also demonstrates my ability to design instruction for a diverse group of learners. While I have a great deal of professional experience designing instruction for K-12 learners, this artifact shows that I am able to design for adult learners as well. I believe that by completing this assignment I have learned about the importance to deliberate map out the entire process for adults, just as you would for younger learners. The process should be very similar. My learners, in this case adults in a professional development situation, will receive the best training to ensure that they are experts with this technology. Additionally, I will make sure to always keep in mind the importance of long-term support when it comes to designing courses for adults. By meticulously planning out professional development courses, I feel that the students at my school will have the best trained educators who can provide them with the best possible learning opportunities and outcomes.
