Title: Prezi Presentation
Area of Mastery: Media/Technology Development
Description:
This Prezi Presentation was completed as part of my coursework for ETT 571.
For ETT 571, my group and I designed a presentation to explain our “Google Drive 101” teacher training program. I was charged with actually creating the final project. I decided to use Prezi to avoid the “death by PowerPoint” that had been discussed in our coursework, and because of the unique and eye-catching features that Prezi has. As you can see, I chose to make our presentation on Google Drive look like a Google Doc, which I felt was a clever way to integrate our subject matter into the presentation. This Prezi presentation incorporates engaging visuals and multimedia to accompany a presentation on a Staff Development Plan. We included a link to a YouTube video, which plays directly from the presentation. We felt this multimedia piece really helped to drive home the message of the presentation, which was about how important Google Apps For Education can be when used properly in the classroom. The presentation touched on a variety of issues, such as the initial needs assessment, the planning of objectives and standards, the professional development itself, and the assessment piece at the end. Prezi was especially helpful with the assessment, as I was able to insert full images of the assessments and then “zoom in” on them, which allowed me to show the assessments, but didn’t disrupt the overall design aesthetics of the presentation.
Rationale:
This presentation demonstrates my understanding of how to select appropriate media to support learning objectives. My audience for this particular assignment was my instructors and my peers in the Cohort. I used an engaging design that visually stimulated the audience, providing them with multimedia in the form of a YouTube video. The overall design was clean and reflects positive design element choices, focusing the audience on the important material rather than distracting them with irrelevant pieces. This artifact positively affected my students’ learning environment by providing an engaging visual presentation to accompany the verbal presentation. I believe my learners from all audiences will benefit from my ability to choose appropriate, engaging media and technology to teach information. At a classroom level, such presentations keep students' attention and excites them in the learning. As a technology specialist, I can pass on these skills to my teachers to ensure they are create the same kinds of engaging media for their students to ensure the best possible learning outcomes in their classrooms. Finally, I believe that students can take these lessons of design and use them for any presentations they might do, either in school or an extracurricular activity.
